Abstract

Rainwater harvesting contributes to a more sustainable lifestyle. It will avoid wastage and reduce the dependency on water supply. Demand for water continues to increase by population. The rainwater harvesting system is able to combat water crisis and serves as an alternative source of water during water shortages. The rainwater harvesting system has potential to contribute to the conservation of clean water usage. The developed rainwater storage system is very simple and easy for installation. The present paper aims to build cheap and affordable rainwater storage system. The production cost is evaluated towards the information about design sustainability. This system consist of water storage tank, existing gutter and main pipe, first flush diverter and connector pipe. However, this product is limited to store untreated water quality. The collected rainwater therefore suitable used as storage water for household and sanitary equipment such as a flushing cistern or other potable water usage. As we know the current constraints, installing a rainwater storage system in the market requires a fairly expensive cost and skilled of technical workers for installation. Thus, this system is initiated to overcome this problem by building a complete set of rainwater harvesting system that’s easy to install, affordable and less maintenance.
